Toronto Maple Leafs Win Stanley Cup….

was the headline of the newspaper in May of 1967. I wasn’t even born for another 20 years. Add to that the 24 years I have been living and we are left with a number. That number is 44. That is the number of years it has been since the Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Stanley Cup. Toronto lives and breathes hockey and has the most rabid fans of any other team. The leafs are continually the highest grossing NHL team in the league with the most sold out games and merchandise sales, yet they still can’t win. Leaf fans are growing old, especially those who were around to see the glory years of the 60s. The new generation of fans has never been able to witness a winning tradition at all in Toronto. We haven’t even made it to the playoffs in years. Hopefully 2011-2012 will be the year to turn things around. Until then, we are left with these black and white pictures….

James Reimer aka Optimus Reim @MapleLeafs

Leafs goalie James Reimer’s mask for the upcoming 2011-2012 season has been revealed. Can’t wait to see Optimus Reim back between the posts

Phaneuf & Eberle: Shake n Bake

Toronto Maple Leaf Captain Dion Phaneuf brought the house down on some poor Swiss kid today in the 2011 IIHF Championship. Knocked him out, look at that face on the bench!

and here’s the funny moment of the day, Edmonton Oiler Jordan Eberle goes in for the handshake on the chick and she totally shuts him down!

Kadri Helps the Leafs Cling On!

The Toronto Maple Leafs survived to live another day. A huge road win against Boston tonight in what seemed like a playoff game. Here is Jay Rosehill’s fight as well as Nazem Kadri’s sweet shootout winner.

Rosehill vs Lucic Fight

Kadri, stirrin-the-soup for the shootout winner!

Here is the entire shootout if you care to watch it:

Not Gank x Phil Kessel Gets Picked Last

I successfully called this today. Out of 48  players I said Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs deserved to be picked last. Well it ended up actually happening. I am going to buy a lottery ticket tonight! Check out Ovechkin taking a picture of Phil sitting all by himself! The All Star Game is Sunday!

Maybe this will open Phil’s eyes and he will start scoring goals. But probably not.

Not Gank … but still slightly gank x Kulemin vs Gleason

Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes dropped a greasy punch into the face of Toronto’s Nikolai Kulemin tonight. I am all for fighting in hockey, I actually encourage it, but this was pretty dirty of him. I don’t think Kulemin has ever been in a fight in his life! What was he thinking? Kulemin didn’t even drop his gloves! The poor guys nose exploded before he even knew what was going on. Gleason got a penalty for fighting, Kulemin did not.

not gank that it happened to one of our ONLY good players on the leafs, but still sort of gank seeing a guys nose get broken in a hockey fight.

Gank Win! Leafs thrash Atlanta 9 goals

Wooooooooo! The Toronto Maple Leafs had a landslide victory tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers. This is a huge and must needed win for toronto, good to see lots of different players gettin on the gamesheet and gettin their feet wet. Hope this is the first of many to come. Also see the nasty cheapshot ben eager gave to colby Armstrong, swelled his eye up real bad, not gank ben eager, not gank. Check out the highlights in this ‘Game in 6 mins’

Not So Gank – Toronto Maple Leafs

As a hardcore Leaf fan that never misses a game, it breaks my heart to watch them lose. We here at ThatsGank yell at our TV’s in frustration and figure we could do a better job coaching. They cant seem to ever get any momentum going and if they do it is quick-lived. No shots, no hits, no passes, boring, dump the puck and chase it hockey. Its not very entertaining to watch. At least if you aren’t going to win, fight someone or entertain us somehow.

Anyways, long story short. We have been getting entertainment from the crowd. It seems I am not the only fan frustrated with the team. Others have began to act out! By throwing WAFFLES on the ice during the game! Now if that isn’t the funniest thing you have heard all day I don’t know what is. They don’t even sell waffles at the game!

This is the 4th game waffles have been thrown, only this time the waffle-tosser got kicked out of the game and Toronto police charged Joseph Robb, a 31-year-old Oakville man, with mischief. Shoutout to Joey Robb, that’s gank!

Leafs forward Colby Armstrong was quoted after the game saying “Who brings waffles to a hockey game, really? Had we won the game, he was going home with soggy waffles so, I don’t know. Whatever. I don’t appreciate it really, a guy throwing waffles at me when I’m skating by.”

The message here is the leafs need to eat a better, more wholesome breakfast each day. Maybe then they can string some wins together. Until then, on with the Waffles!
